Overactive Bladder Causes

Have you ever felt the need to go to the rest room RIGHT NOW!? If this is something that happens to you quite often then you must know what it is like to have an overactive bladder. This happens when the muscles, which are the muscles that surround the bladder, has an involuntary contraction which causes the tightening of the muscles and partial or total emptying of the bladder. This may not necessarily mean that the bladder is full. It is possible for only a small amount of urine to be let out. In some overactive bladder cases there are incidents of "spills" or "leaks" while in some there is only the frequent urge to go to the bathroom.

What causes it?

Having an overactive bladder may have several causes:

Medication- some medication such as sedatives, narcotics and diuretics may result in the determent o f the urinary tract resulting in less control over the urinary system.

Nerve damage- which can be brought about by surgery can result weaken the muscles of the bladder causing involuntary contractions that are the reason for an overactive bladder.

Chronic and neurological diseases- like diabetes, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord lesions also affect the control over the bladder muscles.

Treating it

There are different ways with which an over active bladder can be dealt with. Kegel exercises, is one of them. This is a daily exercise of the pelvic floor muscles that strengthens them; it is a good precaution as well. Bladder training is another option, in this method the patient keeps track of the incidents of urination and spills to find a pattern and learns to empty the bladder before an "accident" occurs. There are also oral and transdermal medications available; however they may have adverse side effects raging from drowsiness, constipation and dry mouth to hypertension.

Another way of treating an overactive bladder is through a natural pill system such as Flotrol. This pill contains natural extracts such as pumpkin seed and soybean germ. The use of pumpkin seed as a treatment for urinary problems dates back to the 16th century.

This is a safer way to treat overactive bladders because it is herbal and has no adverse side effects. Studies show a marked improvement in the urinary tract health over the first week of use of Flotrol in patients. You don’t need to live with an overactive bladder, deal with it effectively and safely today.
